Charles Eames (1907-1978) studied architecture at the University of Washington. He started his own architectural practice in 1930.
Ray Eames (1912-1988) for her part studied painting at the MayFriendBennetSchool in Millbrook, New York. Until 1937 she attended the course of portrait painting at the HofmanSchool, and in that same year she also participates in the first exhibition of abstract American artists in the RiversideMuseum in New York.  She marries Charles Eames in 1941. They revealed themselves as a succesful architectural duo, and later on became famous as furniture designers, photographers and filmmakers.Their best-known projects are the Eames House, the IBM pavilion of the New York World’s Fair and the renowned lounge chair, of which you can find a replica in our room.
